Edith Stein-Philosopher and Saint -by Professor Dermot Moran 25 Feb 2014

Edith was born in a Jewish family in Poland.

She read a lot since young-"shakespeare is her daily bread".

She became the assistant of Husserl,and has produced a number of works.

She was baptised in 1921.

She taught Latin in a convent,and was active in giving public talks.

She led Catholic's Woman Society

Besides writing dialogue between Thomas Aquinas and Husserl,she sought habilitation.

She entered Carmelite Convent in 1933, and took name as Teresa Benedicta.

She was arrested by Gestapo in Echt, together with her sister.

On 9 August that year,Jews were sent to Auschwitz.

She died after that and was beatified by Pope John Paul 2 on may1,1987.

Each one of us has our own essense.This may sometimes not being shown during our lifetime and not being identified from what we have done in lives.

Volunteering in Little Sisters of the Poor

3 of us- me,Hannah and Gwen volunteered ourselves in Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home.We reached at around 9.40, and attended the 10am mass.After mass,we helped to bring the residents back to their respective room.Then,Sr Margarette briefed us on the daily activity of the residents.We also helped to feed the old folks for their 'dinner'.(It's interesting that they called lunch as 'dinner'.the term is used for those who 'stays at home',according to a staff-Alia)Im happy as 'I am doing something,for the sake of others'as I realise most of the time we are just doing things for our own sake.We will be back again on next Sunday! :)

My first Cell Group in Ireland

I joined Cell Group for the first time here last Friday.And I believe this is something that Im looking forward to.I suddenly came to realise that it's important to keep track on our own personal faith,means our own relationship with God- Me and God.But,it's equally important to come together as a group,having our faith grow stronger together!
Also,I made my FIRST CAKE-banana toffee the night before cell group!under Cindy's instruction~heehee :)

Jesus Christ Superstar Musical

Just came back from Jesus Christ Superstar Musical by UCD Musical in O' Reilly Hall.It was really cool!
It was something i never expect as they presented in a very modern and 'ROCK' way.It was something like an opera.Although the front part was kind of boring for me as i havent really put myself into the story,but the following parts were really nice!

The music and effect by orchestra, the lightning, the singing part by the actors and the dances,everything was just so fantastic.10euro for the ticket.and it worthed!

I did enjoy a lot tonight!It really made my day!



FYI:[Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The musical started as a rock opera concept recording before its first staging on Broadway in 1971. The musical is loosely based on the Gospels' accounts of the last week of Jesus' life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. It highlights political and interpersonal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus, struggles that are not in the Bible.]

World Day of the Sick 9 February '14

It has been long that I have never felt the fulfillment of doing something until yesterday.
There was a Mass for the Sick of Dublin Diocese and there were around 20 of us volunteered ourselves to be attendants of the old folks from Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home.I am so happy that I chose to go instead of resting at home although the day before was really tiring.

As I pushed an old lady on a wheelchair entering the church,all came out in my mind is the moment I pushed my grandpa around the Miriam Home one year ago.And I suddenly miss my ah gong and ah ma so so much!

The church was full for the mass.Looking at the Deaf Choir doing sign language in front of the altar,observing their joyful faces of praising Lord,I couldn't take my eyes away from them.They amazed me!They are an unfortunate group of people,but still they praise and thank God for what they have.Then,how about us who have everything we want and in this position right now?Shouldn't we do more and give more?

After the mass,we went back to Little Sisters of the Poor convent.The journey is indeed "adventurous",as the sister who drove us lost her way in the town.ahaha~ Luckily,one of my friends has GPS in her phone! We were served with sandwiches and muffin in the convent.After tea time,we visited the nursing home and we were really fascinated by the facilities there.It is totally different from the old folks home in Malaysia.All the old folks are well taken care of.We asked whether we could volunteer ourselves in the home when we are free and we are greatly welcomed.This is something I wanted to do and I'm looking forward to it!! :)
